What is Pilates?

Pilates is a mind body movement practice that focus on strengthening the core – your abdominals, back extensors, and other trunk muscles. It is a low impact and progressive exercise that involves precise moves and specific breathing techniques.

What are the benefits of Pilates?

  • Boosted flexibility and joint mobility

  • Improved posture

  • Reduced risk for injuries

  • Enhanced mood

  • Improved cognitive abilities

  • More energy and a clearer mind.

What should I wear to class?

Pilates on the Coast has a relaxed atmosphere, so please just wear what you are comfortable in. However, Vanessa does recommend wearing formfitting clothes, this way she can see your movements better. For general hygiene socks and towels are a must!

How many times a week should you do Pilates?

There are a few things to consider when answering this, like how quickly are you looking to progress, how much other exercise are you doing and how much time do you have for classes? One session a week will help you maintain your current muscle strength, and allow you to slowly improve. We recommend starting with 2-3 sessions and increasing from there. 2-3 sessions Is the most popular option because it helps you improve your flexibility and strength quicker.
